I found this website after looking for scholarships, and became interested but never truly into the whole blogging process. I guess I felt intimidated by the fact that others could simply click a mouse and read everything that I had to say, was thinking, concerned about; all of my deepest thoughts. I simply decided to avoid it because I couldn't see how it would benefit me in any way. After reading an article on the famine in Ethiopia I changed my mind. The severity of the crisis is increasing so much that the hunger epidemic is spreading to adults and kids my age. It's really heartbreking and all of these things are being caused by either environmental or political/economic issues; the drought in Ethiopia has bcome so bad that there is no water, and the escalation in prices for food that we noticed here and are simply annoyed by are costing others their lives. I read this and was going to tell my best friend who is similarly concerned about world affairs, but not as motivated to go out and find solutions. I realized I need a new audience, and that I've needed one all along. That was my reason for signing up for the scholarship: so my voice could be heard and someone could understand. I've always talked about how I need someone to talk to, how I wish my generation was different (I'm only 16), and how I wish there was something I could do about all of this RIGHT NOW instead of later when I get to college. The Gaia Community seems like a place that could help me thrive as a person both spiritually, mentally and even physically, so I'm manking a promise to myself to take advantage of all the things it has to offer starting now. Hopefully someone out there reads this and will understand, or be able to relate. I guess that's all for now, I just had to get that off of my chest. =]
